BIO~MATERIALITIES

#Customizable

The workshops in this series explore materials design applying biodesign principles that involve working with biobased, biodegradable or living “ingredients”. The course involves material explorations that implement different proprietary as well as traditional, and open source recipes. Outcomes range from flexible films to hard bioplastics, or composites that repurpose an abundant waste stream (for example textile waste, single use plastics, agricultural waste, etc).

Learning objectives:
  • Understand the principles of biodesign and their application to materials design
  • Identify and repurpose abundant waste streams through materials design
  • Develop and fabricate prototypes using biobased, biodegradable, or living ‘ingredients”
  • Evaluate the properties and performance of bio-based materials
Minimum time commitment: 4 hrs.
Contents can be tailored to your organization needs, and can include the analysis of waste streams to be involved in the creative process.
