CONVERSACIÓN EN FILIGRANA

Exhibition Design and Coordination

Collaboration with De La Mano Consultancy, Colombia, 2018

“Conversation in Filigree” was an itinerant exhibition that summoned artists from different disciplines to work in the collaborative production of artwork that reflected on filigree practice as a colonial cultural legacy and body of knowledge in constant transformation.

In its first version, which took place in the context of EN CONSTRUCTION III Symposium on Contemporary Jewelry (Santa Fe de Antioquia - Colombia, July 2018), 9 artists from different disciplines (engraving,

painting, sculpture, jewelry, textile, architecture) residing in urban areas of Medellín, were convened to collaborate with 9 filigree artists in the Santa Fe urban area and its rural surroundings. Together, they developed experimental processes that introduced new visual and material languages in proposals that evidenced voices of rural and urban cultures. Filigree is not only a creative activity representative of the Andean Region, but also a declared intangible heritage of Colombia, implying bodies of knowledge with “denomination of origin”, that range from mineral extraction and the transformation processes, through the particular ways of participation in the local economy.
